'Gaza' Wins Best Documentary at Dublin Film Festival!

GAZA_ii_450_635_85.JPG

Congratulations to directors Garry Keane and Andrew Mc Connell and their team on ‘Gaza’ winning the top prize at this year’s Dublin Film Festival! The film won the Best Documentary prize, selected by the Dublin Film Critics’ Circle, and earlier in the day was awarded second prize in the ICCL Humarn Rights Film Award, which recognises the role of film in raising awareness of human rights.

This is fantastic news for Garry and all of the production team who spent years working on this film, and often placing themselves in dangerous situations to tell this story.

Garry has been involved in the Allingham Festival for many years, having presented a screening of his ‘Toughest Place…’ documentary a few years ago, and also donating the Jim Keane Award for fiction in honour of his father, one of the founders of the original festival. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we all get to see the film in Ballyshannon!!

Simply click on the button below to submit your proposal:

The Allingham Arts Festival takes place in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, each November. The aim of the festival is to bring a wide range of arts activities to the community, celebrating local, national and international artists of many disciplines. In recent years, we have hosted poetry and writing events, concerts, documentary film screenings and discussions, lectures in design, panel discussions on the creative economy, craft workshops, art and photography exhibitions, historical lectures and much more. Recent guests have included Anne Enright, Theo Dorgan, Afric Mc Glinchey, Garry Keane, Jamie D'Alton, Wes Sewell and Nishaw Ali amongst others.

We would like to hear from artists, writers, poets, musicians, digital media and creative media artists and producers, kids entertainers, educators, film-makers, producers, workshop facilitators, entrepreneurs, crafts people, theatre companies, and anyone else with a suitable event to propose!

Please fill in the form below, providing the following information:

  • clear description of the proposed event

  • target audience/demographic

  • technical requirements - type of space required, audio, projection, etc.

  • costs to the festival

  • if available, examples of previous work/performances, links to website/videos etc.

All proposals will be discussed by the Allingham Festival Committee in April. Decisions for inclusion will be based on the nature of the event, availability of funding, and programming requirements.

Garry Keane's 'Gaza' in Dublin Film Festival

Best wishes to Garry Keane and the team on the Irish premiere of his latest documentary ‘Gaza’ at the Dublin Film Festival this weekend. The film, which took five years to produce, received its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January, and has been receiving rave reviews since then.
