Fifth Court Legal Podcast confirms retired High Court Judge Michael White as special guest

To misquote Mark Twain, ‘reports of our cancellation are greatly exaggerated!’

It’s true, for a brief moment, the recording of The Fifth Court Legal Podcast at this year’s Allingham Arts Festival was put on pause, but now we are very happy to confirm that due to the determined efforts of Peter and festival sponsor Brian J McMullin, the show is back on, with very special guest, retired High Court judge Michael White.

Michael White is one of the most distinguished legal figures Donegal has produced. When he was appointed to the Circuit Court in 1996, he was one of the first three solicitors ever raised to judicial office. He went on to serve on the High Court from 2011 until he retired in 2021. In 2024 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Irish Law Awards. The following year the same award went to Mary Robinson, who had appointed him to the High Court during her presidency.

Peter and Judge White will talk about the challenges facing the rule of law, in Ireland and around the world. This could turn out to be the sleeper hit of Allingham ’26.

📅 Friday 6 November, 5pm
📍 Abbey Arts Centre, Ballyshannon
🎟️ Free entry – booking required.
